Feed the Birds

We’re big on birds around my house.  My husband has a couple of feeders, and a big book where he can look up all the varieties of birds who come to visit.  My step-sister, Debby Kaspari, is the bird expert in our family.  She looks at birds from an artist’s point of view, and paints them absolutely beautifully!  I have a painting that she did for us of a Snowy Egret hanging in my entry way and I just love it.  Debby lives in Oklahoma and you can visit her website to see her work or read her blog:  www.DebbyKaspari.com.  The last time she was out here Debby gave us a terrific recipe for bird food and I thought I’d share with you:

Melt together 1 cup of lard and 1 cup of peanut butter.  Stir in 2 cups of quick oats, 2 cups of yellow cornmeal and 1 cup of flour.  Spread into a cookie sheet and let cool.  Store in a plastic airtight container and crumble up to feed to the birds.  They love it!
