I'm proud to say I fall into the category of "women of a certain age." It's an ambiguous range - somewhere over 35. The women on "Desperate Housewives" have made this a golden age. Bree the character played by Marcia Cross, a relatively new mom in real life, is now a grandmother. This is a nice nod to reality, finally, for the entertainment world, which is so famously youth-obsessed.
Now that my kids are in college, I've had more time to devote to my career, and I know what it's like to be up against 20-somethings for every job. Teenage girls grace the pages of fashion magazines, no cellulite, no photoshop necessary - nice for the designers to show off their couture styles, but what is this saying about the rest of us? You know, the women they actually want to buy the clothes?
So, this may sound crazy, but I'm being daring. I've entered an online modeling contest. I would be willing to bet that I'm the oldest one up there, but I'll never tell! I'm asking for your vote. The winner gets to model jewelry for a catalog - hey... I can do that! Check it out. You just might want to enter, too! Here's my profile, just click on the green button to vote. You can vote once a day, every day - the designer will choose one woman from the top 5 vote-getters.
Vote for Lissa!
