Ancient Wisdom for Homework Solutions by Lissa Coffey

Is your student feeling tired, sluggish, complaining that he doesn't have the energy or motivation to get his homework done?  Try some of these tips garnered from ancient wisdom:

Gem:  The gemstone citrine is excellent for focusing attention.  The citrine needs to be touching the student's skin - so a beaded bracelet is perfect for this.
Color:  Yellow is the color for focusing attention - think of how you can't help but look at a yellow car, or school bus, or traffic sign.  So putting the child in a room that is painted yellow, or at a table with a yellow tablecloth, definitely helps.
Herbs:  Ginger and cinnamon are both natural pick-me-ups, so you can make a sweet tea that contains these herbs for a student who is feeling sluggish.
Food:  Almonds are a good snack, as they provide quick energy without the "rebound" effect of sugar.
Behavior:  Make homework the first thing that is done after school, and reward the accomplishment with "down time" playing a video game or watching TV or visiting friends.  If you start with the down time first, you'll have a hard time ever getting to the homework.
Feng Shui:  Have the student face east, or north, while doing homework for maximum concentration.
